Goals

Assessment Techniques

History:  symptoms, fluid intake / output, bladder / bowel habits, functional limitations, ergonomics

General Musculoskeletal Screen:  pelvic and spine alignment, muscle length, strength, pain

Specific Pelvic Floor Muscle Assessment:  pain, spasm hypertonus, scarring, muscle power, endurance, sensation, surface EMG evaluation with vaginal or rectal sensor

Treatment

Patient Education / Self Management:  early initiation and independence with home exercise programs

Manual Therapy:  soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, skeletal alignment, muscle energy techniques, craniosacral, manipulative techniques

Therapeutic Exercise:  correct muscle imbalances via stretching, strengthening and endurance training, Clinical Reformer for Pilates based core-strengthening

Modalities As Needed:  Pelvic floor muscle biofeedback for down-training or up-training, electrical stimulation for pain and muscle spasm, ultrasound for thermal effects and/or adhesions, moist heat and ice, iontophoresis.

Bridgid earned her Master's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan.  In 2001, she became an APTA Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.  She has eight years of experience treating disorders such as male and female pelvic pain, incontinence, and other complex musculoskeletal dysfunctions.  Bridgid is the Midwest Regional Representative of the APTA's Section on Women's Health.  She has received training through Michigan State's College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as numerous other continuing education courses in myofascial release, visceral manipulation, and biofeedback therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction.  While working at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, she was awarded the Taylor Fellowship to develop physical therapy services for pelvic floor dysfunction.  In September 2000, Bridgid opened Lakeview Physical Therapy, P.C., a practice dedicated to providing highly skilled, personal one-on-one manual therapy.
